Vote for right person, says ex-chief justice

Solukhumbu, June 4

Former chief justice and former chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission Kedarnath Upadhyay today urged the voters in Solukhumbu to cast their ballot in the upcoming local level elections in favour of candidates they think will deliver in action.

The second phase of the local level election is being held across 41 districts in provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7 on June 28.

At an interaction organised by the Democratic Free Human Rights Organisation in Salleri of Solukhumbu, former chief justice Upadhyay underscored need for all sides concerned to impact on the voters’ level of political awareness for voting for the right persons.

Also speaking at the programme, INSEC Chairperson Sushil Pyakurel underlined the need to dispel the illusion among  voters regarding the upcoming poll. He observed, that many people were still taking the local level election as local bodies’ election held in 1997. He opined that the voters should help elect capable persons rather than serve party interests.

Similarly, Chief District Officer of Solukhumbu Umesh Pandey and DSP Madhav Prasad Budhathoki said there was less poll-related security challenge in the district.

Present in the programme were representatives of various political parties, social organisations and media persons who said the local administration should be impartial to lend credibility to the election.
