Voter education campaign launched in Bara district
Bara, September 1
District Election Office, Bara, has launched voter education campaign in the district in view of the upcoming local elections.
Though such campaigns were launched in the past too targeting the June 28 polls, the efforts fizzled due to the protest of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal. The office has launched the campaign afresh from Thursday by assigning some 451 volunteers ahead of the third round of the civic polls.
“As we have seen a huge number of invalid votes in other places, we don’t want that to happen here, hence the campaign,” said DEO chief Naresh Kumar Sarraf, adding that mock elections were held at different places to teach the voters about voting process.
Similarly, security has been beefed up for the elections in the district. “On the basis of requirement, we’ve managed a three-tier security strategy to conduct the polls in free and fair atmosphere,” said Chief District Officer Bijaya Narayan Manandhar of the district.
Bara has a total of 303 polling stations, 66 of them are highly sensitive and 128 are considered sensitive from security point of view. A total of 5180 security personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police force will be deployed for the polls.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the District Manpower Management Committee held at the District Administration Office took a decision to collect details of the staffers in the district level and send the same to the returning officer. Around 2300 government employees will be deployed during the elections.
