GHAIGHAT, OCTOBER 14

An adult male wild elephant that had been living around the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve for about a year was found dead in a paddy field in Udayapur, with authorities yet to determine the cause of its death.

The elephant, known locally as Sano Dare, was discovered in a farmer's rice field in Belaka Municipality-1 on Tuesday evening. Local residents alerted police after spotting the animal lying dead among the crops.

Forest officials and police subsequently reached the site and began preparations for an examination. According to the Division Forest Office, the elephant's cause of death will be established after a post-mortem is conducted by officials from the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Officials said the elephant had been frequenting the reserve area and surrounding regions for about a year. The findings of the post-mortem will determine whether the death was caused by natural, accidental or other factors.
