A herd of wild tuskers from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve have been unleashing terror in different villages of Bara.
Locals say that the herd of elephants have given hard time at Bara's Kolhawi, Karaiyamai and Jitpursimara.
The wild beasts enter the human settlement, destroy houses, eat up the crops and destroy them. Wild elephants have also given a tough time to people of Juawa, Bhaluwaikhor of Kolhawi Municipality and Amlekhgunj, Jaitapur, Kusmadi, Badaharwa, Dakaha and Piluwa of Jitpursiamra, said police.
Local Arun Chaudhary said that tuskers had destroyed nine houses and eaten up crops at Sano Juawa.
Elephants have also destroyed eight houses located at Badahardwa and Amlekhgunj, according to DSP Rajesh Thapa.
Parsa National Park's assistant conservation officer Surya Khadka said that elephants coming from Koshi Tappu had given tough time to people at some places in the district.
According to Khadka, male tuskers have come out to search for female beasts for mating.
A male and a female elephant are staying at Hattisar of Amlekhgunj.
They have mated for more than 18 times till last evening. They will stay together for some more time, said Khadka. Nepali Army is on standby as mating elephants might enter the village and go on a rampage.
