Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has pledged to maintain the 'A' class status of the National Human Rights Commission.
During a meeting with the NHRC Chairperson and other members at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today, the PM pledged to maintain the 'A' class status of NHRC. Taking stock of the current status of the NHRC, the PM said the new Act of the NHRC would be formulated in line with the Paris Principles. On the occasion, the current status of NHRC, new Act of the NHRC and status of the commission were discussed.
During the meeting, NHRC Chairperson Tapa Bahadur Magar demanded that the government take initiatives to maintain the 'A' class status and ensure financial autonomy, appointment of its members and career development of its officials in line with the Paris principles. NHRC members Surya Dhungel, Mihir Thakur, Manoj Duwadi, Lily Thapa, and Chief Secretary of government Baikuntha Aryal, among others were present during the meeting.
