KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 5

Police have rounded up 14 persons from Kathmandu and other parts of the country for allegedly possessing, smuggling, and peddling drugs over the past three days.

Janga Bahadur Rai, 35, of Panchthar, currently residing in Kathmandu, was arrested with 142 grams of illegal brown heroin, Rs 950,000 in cash and a digital weighing scale. A team deputed from the Narcotics Control Bureau arrested him from his rented room in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Kathmandu District Court has remanded Rai to seven-day judicial custody to proceed with further investigation.

Shiddhi Ram Silpakar, 49, Bhaktapur Municipality, was held with 21 grams of brown heroin and a digital weighing scale from Dudhpati of the same municipality.

A special team of the Narcotics Control Bureau Koteshwar searched his house and arrested him with the drug.

Similarly, police arrested four persons with about 390 milligrams of brown heroin from Urlabari Municipality, Morang. Among those arrested are Jeevan Bishwakarma, 24, Sanjay Sahni, 40, Mithun Mandal, 29, and Ram Kumar Sahni, 25.

On the basis of a special information, the cops found them in possession of the drug while searching the rented room of Bishwakarma.

Police said they were involved in drug peddling.

Three persons, including Tirtha Narayan Chaudhary, 23, of Bara Colbi Municipality, was arrested with 1.4 grams of brown heroin and 240 grams of white heroin from Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality, Parsa. They were found to be transporting the drugs during security screening of two motorcycles they were riding on.

In a separate operation, police arrested Anjali Thing, 28, with 8.4 kilograms of marijuana from Jitpursimara Sub-metropolitan City. Acting on a special tip-off, cops deployed from Amlekhganj Police Station caught her for illegal possession of the drug during security checking of her scooter.

Likewise, four persons, including Nar Bahadur Ghimire, were held with 1.3 kilograms of hashish from Deukalia, Ghodaghodi Municipality. The police team jointly deployed from Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, Dhangadi and Area Police Office, Sukhad, arrested them with the illegal substance. Police said they had launched further investigation into all the incidents.
