SAPTARI, JULY 28
A woman who was taken to a pharmacy instead of a hospital for treatment lost her life yesterday in Rupani of Saptari district.
After Siyadevi Mandal of Paunwa Tole, Rupani Rural Municipality, complained of chest pain, her kin had taken the 35-year-old to Ajit Pharmacy and Clinic in Rajbiraj last evening. According to the victim's kin, the owner of the pharmacy and a nurse present there had attended to her. She passed away while undergoing treatment at the pharmacy. The woman was then taken to Chhinnamasta Hospital, just 400 metres away from the clinic. Doctors declared the patient dead upon arrival at the hospital.
DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle of District Police Office said the woman could have been saved if she was taken to the hospital in time.
Regarding the death, the victim's kin have sought investigation and action against the pharmacy operator. "She died due to negligence on the part of the owner of the pharmacy, who falsely assured us that it was an easy case and that she would be easily treated," said the woman's relatives.
The police officer said police had detained the pharmacy owner and started interrogation. "The body has been sent to Dharan-based BPKIHS for post-mortem and investigation is under way," he said.
