Woman killed in clash in Saptari

RAJBIRAJ, DECEMBER 14

A woman died on the spot in a clash between two groups in Bodebarsain Municipality, Saptari, today.

The deceased has been identified as Gangiya Devi Mandal, 45, of the municipality.

Police said the clash erupted after a dispute on the issue of fishing in a public pond took a turn for the worse. Saptari District Police Office DSP Bhubaneshwor Sah said four persons were injured in the clash.

Jayanarayan Mandal, Sobindra Mandal, Dhiraj Mandal and Jogindra Mandal were injured in the clash, said police. The injured are receiving treatment in Lahan-based Kamana Nursing Home.

Meanwhile, police arrested Shivasaran Mandal, Bijaya Mandal, Surendra Mandal and Rabit Mandal of the municipality for their alleged involvement in the clash, said DSP Sah.

Eyewitnesses said people from both the groups were carrying axes and bamboo sticks, among other domestic weapons before the dispute took an ugly turn at around 10:00pm yesterday. Police said that Gangiya Devi received a deep cut on her head and died on the spot.

DSP Sah said that police had been deployed at the incident site to bring the situation under control.
