TANAHUN, JUNE 27
Byas Municipality of Tanahun district has launched 'Atmanirbhar Chori Sashakta Byas Nagar' (Independent Daughters, Strong Empowered Byas Municipality) in a bid to empower and honour daughters and women in the municipality.
The campaign will benefit daughters of the indigenous, Dalit and marginalised communities residing within the municipality. The municipality will provide financial assistance to those families among the Dalit, Bote, Darai, Kumal and Chepang communities marrying off their daughters 20 years after their birth in a bid to discourage child marriage.
Chief Administrative Officer in the municipality Dilliram Sigdel said that the campaign was launched to uplift girl children in marginalised communities.
Likewise, graduate women from impoverished families and those who reside permanently in the municipality will be provided grant assistance in a bid to foster entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, the campaign also included health coverage for women from impoverished families.
The 'Women with Deputy Mayor' programme aims to provide nutrition to expecting and new mothers as well as their newborns.
Likewise, those women who have survived sexual violence will be provided legal assistance and counselling as well as protection from the gender-based violence fund. "Scholarship for daughters from impoverished families have been put in place to assist them in their higher education," informed Byas Municipality Mayor Baikuntha Neupane.
