Workers' strike mars services at Saptari health facilities

RAJBIRAJ: Services at 119 health facilities of Saptari have been obstructed for the past four days owing to the workers' strike.

The agitated workers have put forth a three-point memorandum in front of the government demanding implementation of Section 9(b) of the Nepal Health Service Act 1997 in favour of the health workers and appointment of facility chiefs based on seniority.

The staff have gathered at the District Public Health Office in Rajbiraj and staged a sit-in.

Public Health Inspector Ram Dev Yadav informed that the protest would continue until the demands were met.

The protest had started with the initiatives of United Trade Union Struggle Committee. Officials from the Nepal Health Workers Union, the National Health Union, the Madhesi Health Workers Forum, the All Nepal Progressive Health Workers Union and the Health Workers Union Nepal among others have joined the protest.

Meanwhile, the Health Assistant Union Nepal Saptari chapter stated that the protest breached common people’s fundamental right to acquire health facilities.

Locals said the protest had made their access to health services even more difficult than before.
