Pokhara, May 18:
CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today claimed that the world was behind Nepal’s political parties in their fight for democracy, civil liberties and the establishment of governance by the people.
Speaking at the press conference organised by the Press Chautari, Kaski, here, today, Nepal said India, China, and the European Union have already hailed seven political parties’ agenda.
“The King is weakening himself by taking the country under direct rule and the foreign countries have realised that democracy is in crisis in Nepal,” Nepal said.
He said the CPN-UML and other political parties have already agreed to go for the constituent assembly. Saying the significance of Article 127 of the constitution was over, Nepal said, “The political parties were deceived time and again. The political parties will now sack the article itself.”
Nepal said the seven political parties would go unitedly for the revival of the House, formation of new constitution, resolution to the Maoist problem and attainment of total democracy. “There is no option but to continue the stir.”
“The stir will only bring the democracy, derailed three months ago, back on the track”, he said.
Rebuffing the government’s claims on improved law and order situation, Nepal said cases of violation of human rights have gone up, development works have come to a standstill and industries have been shut down.
The government’s has been spending all its efforts in re-activating the Panchayat policies
and discrediting the political parties and multiparty democracy, Nepal said.
While stating that the Maoists have not stopped killing political activists and the civilians, abductions and extortion, he asked how the government can claim to have improved security situation. Calling upon the Maoists to come to the table of talks, Nepal said they have no future unless they come to the negotiating table.
