'World Peace Pooja' to be performed in Thailand

KATHMANDU: World Peace Pooja (worship) is scheduled to take place in Thailand on September 8 and 9 with the objective of building a peaceful and prosperous world society.

The pooja will be conducted wishing for world peace by minimisation of chaos, greed, violence, violation of human rights, and enmity among people around the world, said the organising World Buddhist Religion Association.

The venue for the religious event is a Buddhist temple in Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province, north of Bangkok.

A 28-member team led by Chairperson of the Association Aani Bhim Subba Gurung has left for Thailand to attend the event, which will see the participation of hundreds of Buddhist followers from various countries of the world. The team will return home to Nepal on September 12.

The Association is planning to build a peace pillar in Nepal following the same kind of pooja to be held in 20 other countries in the next two years.

A working paper on Buddhist traditions and tourism will be presented in the event, said General Secretary of the Association Ram Sharan Poudel.
