YCL cadres ‘rob’ RJP leader

Dhankuta, March 11:

In yet another instance of YCL excesses, cadres of the Maoist-affiliated outfit detained four persons including Dhankuta district president of the Rastriya Janashakti Party Kumar Bahadur Thapa who was on a poll campaign for hours, beat up and robbed them in Dhankuta.

YCL cadres intercepted Thapa along with khayar trader Laxmi Thapa of Gholikharka, Gopal Niraula and NGO worker Dipak Dhamala at Mulghat along the Koshi Highway while they were heading to Dhankuta from Dharan on a van.

The YCL cadres looted Rs 50,000 from the RJP leader, Rs 35,000 from Laxmi Thapa, Rs 50,000 from Dhamala and Rs 4,000 from Niraula, the victims said. The YCL cadres also looted three mobile phone sets and important documents including RJP central president Surya Bahadur Thapa’s citizenship certificate, RJP leader Thapa said.

When he asked the YCL cadres to return the seized goods and cash, Thapa said the YCL cadres told him that it was a warning against Surya Bahadur Thapa not to enter the district in the future.

Meanwhile, issuing a release the RJP condemned the YCL behaviour as a ‘barbarous atrocity’.
