Gachhadar spews venom at Maoists over statute

BIRATNAGAR: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Construction and Works Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar on Sunday said that the Unified CPN-Maoist would be responsible if the constitution is not promulgated on time.

Speaking to media persons in Biratnagar airport in the morning, Gachhadar said, "The Maoists don't do anything and they even prevent the government from carrying out its duties."

Due to such tendencies of the UCPN-M, it should be accountable if the State fails to promulgate the constitution on time and take the peace process to a logical conclusion, the Deputy PM argued.

Stating that Maoists create hurdles in carrying out the regular duties of the government, Gachhadar said, "The UCPN-M made a big mistake by not joining the incumbent government."

When asked about UCPN-M's threat of promulgating the statute from the street, the Deputy PM said, "If the Maoists had the strength, they could promulgate the constitution from the jungle as they were running the people's government from the jungle during the decade long insurgency."

Asked about a possible attack by the Maoists on the government if the statute was not executed on time, Gachhadar said, "People will respond the Maoists' attack suitably if that happens."
