Jazz concludes with rapture

KATHMANDU: Surya Nepal Jazzmandu Festival 2009 on October 13 celebrated its last show with a platter full of jazz music at its best at

Hotel Shangri-La. Captivating everyone to groove

to the music, the master musicians from Trio Urbano, Vatchapuj, Sheyla Costa La Brasileira, Trebeka, Soulmate, and the local bands JCS Trio and Cadenza had the crowd under their musical spell. Soulmate from Shillong had

the highest influence

with their rocking blues and jazz numbers.

“We are feeling so sad that we are leaving Kathmandu after this show,” said Jamie Baum, the immaculate flautist of Trio

Urbano. With their recurring numbers like Zanzibar, Sambou Sambou and Lugar Comum,

once again Trio Urbano earned huge applause

from the audience. “Our journey to Jazzmandu has been an amazing experience,” said Dario Eskenagi, the natural pianist from the same band.

The second last session of the show saw Soulmate that played electric blues numbers like Shillong (their original number) and some covers like Voodoo Woman by Koko Taylor that injected a swift of change in ambience from the one the other bands had set.

Head banging and

shouts sprouted from

the crowd. Tipriti Kharbangar, vocalist of Soulmate created magic with her voice and guitarist Rudy Wallang didn’t let go of the chance to amaze everyone with his guitar solo.

“Soulmate is simply fabulous. Vocals are just great and the guitarist is brilliant,” said Daniel

DShresta, Director -Corporate Affairs from IME Automotives Pvt Ltd who was thoroughoy enjoying the programme.

At the concluding

part of the groovy musical evening, all the artistes had a big jam up session

when everyone took turns to display their improvisations and the moment was simply amazing for all jazz enthusiasts.

“We thank all our patrons, sponsors, volunteers, musicians and the audience without whom this festival would not have succeeded,” said Navin Chhetri, Artistic Director of Kathmandu Jazz Festival while addressing the crowd. Next year Kathmandu Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place from October 28 to November 5.
