Madhesi parties call Terai bandh

KATHMANDU: Madhesi parties demanding legitimacy for the Hindi language as a national language called a bandh in the Terai region on Sunday. They are protesting the Supreme Court order for the Vice President to retake his oath in Nepali. The bandh was called by the Samyukta Madhesi Morcha, comprising Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum Nepal, Terai Madhes Democratic Party and Sadbhawana Party.

Due to the bandh various Terai districts like Janakpur, Rajbiraj, Saptari, Siraha, Bara, Kapilvastu and Parsa have been affected. Markets, industries, educational sectors and transportation are closed in the affected areas.

Cadres of Madeshi parties vandalised two vehicles (Na 2 Cha 1386 and Na 3 Kha 8063) in Ghantaghar of Birjung. During the incident a protester Sunil Patel was injured and is being treated in Narayani Sub-regional hospital of Birgung.

In Bhairava, another vehicle (Na 3 Kha 6522) was vandalised by protestors for violating the bandh.
