Special evening with Amber Gurung
KATHMANDU: The charm of the evening was splendid as legendary composer and singer Amber Gurung performed a few of his all time favourites and some new songs at the Dashain special Paleti on September. And along with the performance he recollected past memories attached with the singers and lyricists.
As soon as the music maestro completed Ma Amar Hoon, one of his all time favourite numbers, the r-sala in Nepa~laya was filled with a round of loud applause. Wishing best wishes for a Happy Vijaya Dashami, he revealed an interesting incident attached to the song: “Decades ago in a concert, I saved this song for the end of the show but
someone from the audience handed me a cheat which read ‘Please sir,
sing the song, Ma Amber Gurung, too’”.
The musical ambience got more melodious when Gurung performed the classic duet Tipa Yo Jowan with Meena, which was originally sung by Tara Devi. Being nostalgic after listening to Pheri kali phulera, sung by Meena, Gurung shared, “I believe that the creation of a masterpiece cannot be done with the blending of feelings without music,” adding that listening to these songs make him emotional each time.
As a concluding mark the national anthem composer performed Nau lakh tara and Yo jindagi ko ke kura, two of his evergreen songs which received lasting applause from the audiences. Justifying the spirit of songs, Avaas and Meena sang some of the old numbers of Gurung, which were well appreciated by Gurung himself and the audience too.
Kiran Krishna Shrestha, the host for the evening, informed that a trial edition of Paleti in association with Pokhareli Yuwa Sanskritik Pariwar is being organised in Pokhara on September 21. Gurung will also be performing in Pokhara.
