KATHMANDU: After the success of the musical reality show — Spirite Band Challenge 2008, the much anticipated Season 2 of the competition has begun, with the curtains being raised on September 9 for the knock-outs.

The contest is a platform for all aspiring bands to showcase their talent, have a whale of a time performing their favourite numbers, and if they are good enough, walk away with prizes.

The show that provided a platform for some 50 amateur rock bands in Season 1 has seen a doubling of

those vying for the title

and prize money with a

total of 97 bands participating in this season’s

challenge.

The line-up in the judges will see a change with rockstar Abhaya Subba joining the panel of other Nepali rock icons like Dev Rana and Robin Tamang. Manoj KC of 1974 AD will be missed by fans and performers alike this year.

As in the previous season, Suraj Singh Thakuri will be hosting the contest. However, Upali Lama will be his

co-host instead of Manavi Dhakal.

The winners of Sprite Band Challenge Season 1 Anuprastha received a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and also grabbed an opportunity to create their own music video.

The stakes are as high this year. May the best band win.
