Trucks torched, cop injured in Bara


BIRGUNJ: Cadres of the UCPN-Maoist set fire to two loaded trucks for defying their indefinite bandh called in Balganga along the Pathlaiya-Nijgadh road section on Friday morning.

UCPN-Maoist Bhojpur Rajya Committee had announced an indefinite bandh in Bara.

According to the regional traffic police the cadres had torched the trucks at Balganga along the East-West Highway at 5 am.

The fire completely destroyed the trucks. In the incident ASI Bhav Raj Phunyal, an employee of Armed Police Group, Piluwa was injured while defusing the fire. The fire destroyed Rs 4 lakhs in currency belonging to Lalan Gupta, a vegetable shopkeeper and completely damaged the trucks. A fire brigade was brought from Birgunj to douse the fire. All the markets areas, transportation, educational institutions, trade and industries have been shut down due to the bandh in Bara, Rautahat and Parsa districts .

On Wednesday night activists of the Terai Mukti Morcha shot dead three activists- Ram Prasad Yadav, Dara Yadav and Ambika Mahato, of the UCPN-Maoist while they were returning from a party in Ganjabhawanipur-based brick kiln in Bara. Of the two Maoist workers who were seriously injured, Kanhaiya Yadav of Ganjabhawanipur VDC is undergoing treatment at Norvic hospital in Kathmandu and Siyaram Mahato in Birgunj.


Meanwhile, the Maoists have been demonstrating with the bodies in front of District Administration Office in Bara seeking martyr status for the deceased, free treatment of the injured and compensation to the deceased’s families.
