Holier than thou

Multiparty democracy is one of the best forms of democracy. However, too many political parties with too many ideologies and too many corrupt politicians have taken our country downhill. Every party wants to run the country in its own way. Why should we care if it has nothing good to give us? And, if peace and progress cannot be achieved with the present system of democracy, people would be more than happy to work with just two parties instead

of scores of parties with tainted image.

Necessity

Ordinances are necessary and important for purposes of governance. Moreover, they are constitutionally subjected to final approval by the parliament in the next session of the

legislature-parliament. Hence, Girija Prasad Koirala’s objection to the ones brought in by the

present government is unjustified. He needs to remember that he too had issued ordinances including the one that abruptly fired large numbers of employees having completed 30 years of service.

Take care

The news that the National Forensic Science Laboratory has imported a Liquid Nitrogen Mill made me happy that Nepal over the years has been making gradual improvements in forensic science. Now the DNA tests can be conducted at home. After acquiring such sophisticated

technology, the worry is as to the future maintenance aspect, which in most observed cases is dismal like the sophisticated medical equipment in government hospitals.

Waste

It has been learnt that some of the major parties are training their CA members on the constitution-writing process. I am of the opinion that the dozens of CA teams bound for different destinations in the country to gather suggestions for the writing of the constitution would be a sheer waste of public funds. It would instead be wise to agree on a constitution drafted by an experts’ team that would guarantee our fundamental freedoms and build the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous Nepal.

Change

With reference to the news report “Fuel price cut fails to bring taxi fares down” (THT, Feb 10), the Nepal Meter Taxi Association (NMTA) should review taxi fares. Taxi drivers should also consider passengers’ safety and stop tampering with the meters.

Good work

This is in reference to the news report “Bird flu fully under control:

Officials” (THT, Feb 10). It is commendable that bird flu has been brought under control. THT should be thanked in that it has helped dispel fears about the spread of bird flu in the country.

Appeal

Reckless driving is one of the major causes of increasing road mishaps. It is my strong appeal

to the people who drive vehicles to respect the traffic rules and regulations for their safety as well as for that of others.
