KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 29

Seventeen-year-old Keshav Bishwakarma, who was struck by live ammunition in Kalanki during the Gen Z protests where several of his friends were killed by police bullets, looks on as his niece checks the files of the hospital reports in his rented room in Kalanki, Kathmandu, on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

He fainted after heavy bleeding and was rushed by protesters to Teaching Hospital, where he underwent surgery in the ICU.

Doctors stitched torn nerves in his thigh but left a bullet inside, as removing it would require another major operation.

Now a Grade 12 student at Kathmandu Sikshya Campus, Keshav struggles to walk. His family from Bajura faces financial hardship, with his father also hospitalized for a heart condition.

"Every year we went home for Dashain, but this time I cannot walk properly-it's a very sad Dashain for me," he says.

Despite some personal support, his recovery and future remain uncertain.
