The body of 36-year-old Laxman Rai of Nuwakot is pictured as family and relatives gather at the Forensic Department of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu on Monday, September 29, 2025. Rai, a daily wage laborer in Balaju, was shot in the back of the head during the Gen Z protests on September 8–9 and remained in a coma for 21 days before passing away at midnight.
According to volunteer Pradip Pandey, who has been assisting victims and their families, it took more than two days to identify Laxman’s family after the protests, as he lay unconscious in the ICU. His wife had left him, and his young daughter’s whereabouts remain unknown, leaving only cousins and friends to collect his body for postmortem. More than 72 people were killed and thousands were injured during the demonstrations.
