10 cricketers draw top bids

Kathmandu, March 31

Ten cricketers were sold for maximum amount of Rs 75,000 each in the auction of the Women’s T20 Cricket League here today.

A total of four city teams are taking part in the first-ever franchise-based women’s cricket league slated for April 20-27 in Biratnagar. The teams bought 13 players each from the auction spending a total of Rs 2.55 million.

Bhairahawa Queens, who have signed national team skipper Rubina Chhetry Belbashi, bought Sonu Khadka, Indu Berma and Bindu Rawal for Rs 75,000 each, while Kathmandu Super Champions also got three players — Mamta Chaudhary, Sarita Magar and Roma Thapa — for the maximum amount.

Former skipper Nery Thapa is the marquee player of Kathmandu.

Biratnagar Roaring Lioness, with national team member Karuna Bhandari as the marquee player, acquired the services of Kajol Shrestha and Apsari Begam for Rs 75,000 apiece, while Dhangadhi Wonder Women — who have national team vice-captain Sita Rana Magar as the marquee player — made the highest bids for Kabita Kunwar and Jyoti Pandey. All 10 players were decided through lottery after more than one team bade the highest amount.

A total of 80 players had registered for the auction and only two cricketers — Aarati Bidari and — from category A remained unsold in first round. While Bidari was bought for the base amount of Rs 40,000 by Dhangadhi, A total of 80 players had registered for the auction and they were divided into three categories. The base amount of Grade A cricketers was Rs 40,000 with Rs 75,000 the ceiling, while it was Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000 for Grade B. Likewise, the base amount and ceiling for Grade C cricketers were set at Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
