Five-day international event draws 1,500 athletes from Nepal and four neighbouring countries.

The 13th Korean Ambassador International Open Taekwondo Championships 2025 began in Kathmandu on Monday, launching a five-day competition that has brought together athletes from Nepal and four neighbouring countries.
The event, which runs from December 1 to 5 at the Nepal Taekwondo Association hall, is jointly organised by the Embassy of South Korea in Nepal and the Nepal Taekwondo Association.
In his opening remarks, South Korean Ambassador Tae-young Park highlighted Taekwondo as Korea's traditional martial art that has grown into a global sporting discipline rooted in values of discipline, respect and patience. He reaffirmed Korea's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nepal, especially in sports and cultural exchanges. Nepal, he noted, has consistently delivered strong performances in Taekwondo on the international stage.
Ambassador Park also praised Nepali para-athlete Palesha Goverdhan, who made history by winning a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics - an achievement celebrated by both Nepal and Korea as a shared sporting milestone.
This year's championships have expanded into a fully international event, with participants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Around 1,500 athletes are competing for 103 gold medals in various categories throughout the tournament.
