Amrit in quarter-finals

LALITPUR: Amrit Thapa and Suraj Shrestha advanced to the Men’s Open quarter-finals of the second CG Open Squash Tournament here today.

Amrit beat Binod Ratna Shakya 11-10, 11-9, 11-6 while Suraj saw off Kiran Maharjan 11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5. Joining them in the last eight were Gyanu Chaudhary, Sudip Bahadur Singh, Prajwol Pradhan and Suresh Kumar Gurung.

Gyanu overcame Anil Bajracharya 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6 while Sudip beat Rajendra Bhakta Shrestha 11-4, 11-1, 11-3. Likewise, Prajwol defeated Surendra Silwal in straight sets 11-1, 11-4, 11-5 and Suresh Kumar dispatched Robin Shakya 11-8, 11-4, 11-9.

In the Veterans’ Open (above-45yrs), Rajendra Bhakta Shrestha rallied for a 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 win over Rupak Das Tamrakar and Amar Rana defeated Roop Krishna Shrestha 13-11, 11-6, 11-7. In the only match in the ladies’ section, Chhitiz Gurung saw off 3-11, 15-13, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11 win over Krishna Thapa.

In all, 55 players are taking part in the tournament organised by Nepal Squash Racket Academy under the sponsorship of CG Electronics. The event features four sections — Men’s, Ladies, Boys’ U-15 and Veterans’ Open.
