ANFA Academy stun Armymen
Dharan, March 6:
ANFA Academy stunned one of the Nepali football giants Tribhuvan Army Club 1-0 in the 10th Budha Subba Tuborg Gold Cup here today.
Defender Rohit Chand, who was later named man-of-the-match, scored from a freekick in the 72nd minute. The chance was created when Ram Kumar Biswas brought down skipper Nirajan Malla outside the box.
“I would consider the win as one of the most memorable ones,” said ANFA Academy coach Kishor KC. KC said that their five-year training of the kids paid off. “My boys were nervous initially as they were up against one of the best team of Nepali football,” added KC.
ANFA Academy were at disarray until the first 30 minutes but found their rhythm there after. Biswas wasted a chance for the Army team when he shot high over the bar in the 42nd minute before the midfielder hit the woodwork in the 55th minute.
Academy defender Subindra Shrestha denied the Army club an equaliser four minutes
after taking the lead. Armymen Surendra Chaudhary’s attempt in an unattended post was cleared by Shrestha from the goalline. Academy goalkeeper Dinesh Thapa also denied striker Bikarna Shrestha two minutes from time.
Tribhuvan Army Club coach Dhruba KC rued the missed chances. “We were the better side but we missed two many goal-scoring opportunities,” said KC. Friends Club of Kathmandu will take on Sahara Club of Pokhara on Friday.
