APF lift Women’s Football C’ship

Kathmandu, October 18:

Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club annihilated Panchthar 8-0 in the final to lift the Women’s Football Tournament held at the Dasharath Stadium here on Wednesday.

Mira Maharjan struck hat-trick for the winning side. Anu Lama and Jamuna Gurung scored two goals each while Laxmi Poudel added another.

In a total mismatch final, APF opened their goal-scoring spree early in the 13th minute when Mira converted on a pass from Jamuna Gurung. Anu Lama doubled the tally five minutes later following Mira’s right flank cross. Jamuna then added two more in the 29th and 38th minute.

Mira scored her second goal of the game in the 44th minute before completing her hat-trick in the 71st minute. Laxmi came up with the best goal of the game converting an unstoppable 22-yard strike that left Panchthar goalkeeper Shakila Thapa totally stranded. Anu completed the rout scoring their eighth goal in the 78th minute on a pass from Jamuna.

Member secretary of the National Sports Council Jeewan Ram Shrestha and All Nepal Football Association president Ganesh Thapa presented the trophy, gift hampers, medals and certificates to the players. Apart from the APF 22 district participated in the tournament organised by ANFA.
