Nepal APF Club recorded their second straight victory to advance to the women's section semi-finals of the seventh NVA National Club Volleyball Championship here at the NSC covered hall today.
In the Group B match, APF defeated Krishna Secondary Academy in straight sets to accumulate six points and seal their place in last four. In the lopsided contest, APF conceded just four, six and three points in three sets respectively.
APF will now face Tribhuvan Army Club, who have already advanced to the semis with two wins, to decide the group winners.
In Group A, Nepal Police Club defeated Hongwanji New Diamond Youth Sports Club 3-2 to top the pool. In the match between two already-qualified teams, the NPC prevailed 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-10 and finished first, ahead of the defending champions.
In men's section, TipTop Help Nepal won Group D with maximum nine points and made it to the quarter-finals.
Help Nepal defeated Madhesh Province in straight sets for their third straight victory. Keshavlal Memorial Volleyball Training Centre finished as runners-up from the group with six points after they beat Budhanilkantha Volleyball Club 27-25, 25-18, 25-16. Likewise, Gandaki Province advanced to the quarters with six points from Group C. Gandaki defeated Dhorpatan Sports Club 25- 12, 25-9, 25-10 to finish second behind group winners Nepal Police Club. The NPC registered three victories and accumulated maximum nine points to win the group.
A total of 23 teams - 15 in men's section and eight in women's category - are taking part in the championship organised by Nepal Volleyball Association. Top three teams in both categories will receive Rs 400,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.
The best players of the championship will earn Rs 25,000 each, while the best spiker, setter, blocker, server, defender and coach will get Rs 10,000 apiece. The championship also serves as qualifiers for the NVA National Club League. Top eight teams in men's section and top six clubs in women's section will earn berths in the league.
