LALITPUR: Nepal Army won the title of the Earthquake Refreshment Wheel Chair Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. Nepal Army thrashed Jawalakhel Club 31-6 riding on 14 points from Raju Katuwal in the match played at the Bhanimandal court. In women’s section, Jorpati ‘A’ registered an 8-6 win over their ‘B’ team. A total of six teams participated in the one-day tournament. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Nepali chess players produced mixed results by the end of eighth round in the 16th ASEAN Age-group Chess Championship in Singapore on Saturday. Bibek Thing, competing in U-20 category, defeated the Philippines IM Bersamina Paulo in the seventh round before facing a defeat at the hands of Vu Quang Quyen of Vietnam. Likewise, Rupesh Jaiswal, competing in the U-18 category, lost to Nguyen Anh Khoi of Vietnam in the eighth round after playing a draw against leader Lu Chan Hung in the seventh round. — HNS
Nadal reaches final
STUTTGART: Rafael Nadal defeated France’s Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-4 to reach the Stuttgart Open final. The Spanish could become the first man to win titles at the event on both clay and this year’s new grass surface if he wins Sunday’s final against either Marin Cilic or Viktor Troicki. Nadal dominated Monfils over 79 minutes, defeating the fourth seed despite 11 aces off the French racquet. — AFP
