Armymen set date with NPC

Kathmandu, April 16

Tribhuvan Army Club registered a 3-2 victory over Help Nepal Sports Club to enter the final of the RBB-NVA Club League Volleyball Tournament here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

The Armymen were 20-23 behind at one stage but won five straight points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Help Nepal levelled the scores with a 25-19 victory in the second set before TAC went ahead again with a 25-21 win against the team which had four Indian players.

The defending champions Help Nepal equalised the scores for the second time when they took the fourth set 25-20. In the deciding final set, TAC were leading 12-10 before the match was halted for few minutes when Help Nepal protested a decision from referee. But the match went ahead and TAC won the set 17-15 to win the match.

In women’s section, Nepal APF Club and New Diamond have already advanced to the final. Both the finals are slated for Monday.

The winners in both the sections will get Rs 200,000, while the runners-up will earn Rs 100,000 each. The third and fourth placed teams will get Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The best player of the tournament will get Rs 15,000, while the best libero, server, blocker, lifter, spiker and coach will earn Rs 5,000 each.

A total of 14 teams — eight in men’s and six in women’s sections — took part in the tournament organised by Nepal Volleyball Association under the sponsorship of Rastriya Banijya Bank.
