KATHMANDU: The medal winning athletes returned home on Saturday after taking part in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon.

A total of 10 Nepali athletes took part in the tournament with three players winning medals in the South Asian category. Pushpa Bhandari won gold medal with new national record.

Bhandari finished the 42-195km race with the timing of two hours, 48 minutes and 02 seconds, breaking her own mark of 2:50:11 set on the way to winning bronze medal in the 13th South Asian Games in 2019.

Bhandari had won gold medal in 2021 and bagged bronze in 2022 in Dhaka. Another Nepali athlete Bindra Dhanke Shrestha won bronze in marathon, while Gopi Chandra Parki finished third in half marathon. Nepal Athletics Association Secretary RK Bista, chief coach Chandra Gurung and Olympian Pramila Rijal welcomed the team at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
