Madrid, January 21:

Striker Braulio Nobrega scored twice and Atletico Madrid beat third-division Lorca 2-0 to reach the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on a 5-1 aggregate score. Braulio, who is usually an Atletico reserve, opened the scoring in the third-round return game at Atletico’s Vicente Calderon Stadium from a pass by substitute Salva Ballesta in the 64th minute.

The striker’s second goal arrived in the 86th when he fired home off a pass by midfielder Gonzalo Colsa.

Lorca, which rarely threatened the Atletico goal, lost defender Eloy Pomar, who was ejected with 15 minutes remaining. Atletico completed the lineup for the quarter-final draw, which takes place on Friday. The others are first-division Athletic Bilbao, Numancia, Osasuna, Real Betis and Sevilla. Second-division Valladolid is also through, as is third-division Gramenet. The biggest upset of the third round came on Wednesday when Real Madrid was eliminated on away goals after a 1-1 home draw against Valladolid.
