Lalitpur, November 12

The Baahrakhari Corporate Golf Tournament, an invitational event for social golfers, is scheduled here at the Gokarna Golf Club on November 18.

Around 100 golfers from corporate houses will take part in the tournament which will be played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, informed Senior Golf Director at Gokarna Golf Club Deepak Acharya at a press meet today.

The tournament features men, women, gross, senior and youth categories apart from longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and most birdies. The winners will receive trophies and gift hampers. “We are yet to finalise the prizes for the winners and we want to keep it a secret for now,” said Acharya.

The Hole-in-one feat on par-3 Hole No 10 will earn a Tata Zest car. Meanwhile, Acharya said golfers were excited for the tournament being organised by the media. “The tournament will be helpful in the development of the sport in the country,” said Acharya.

Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire said the game was not as popular as other sports because it required a lot of area to play to golf. “We have not been able to explore sports tourism through golf despite having favourable weather throughout the year unlike other countries where golf courses remain shut for three to four months because of adverse weather condition,” Ghimire said.

Famous Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala is scheduled to inaugurate the tournament, while industrialist Binod Chaudhary has confirmed his presence at the closing ceremony, informed Managing Director of Baahrakhari Media Gyaneshwor Acharya. The tournament is sponsored by NIC Asia Bank.
