Basnet wins 100m

Kathmandu, September 3:

Devi Bahadur Basnet of Tribhuvan Army Club won the 100m race beating Surendra Thanet of Nepal Police by just 0.1 second at the Open Athletics Championship. Basnet won in 11 seconds, while Gopal KC came third in 11.3. Chandra Kala Thapa won the women’s 100m in 12.8 seconds beating Bina Shrestha (13.6) and Anita Budhathoki (16.5). Prem Bahadur Mahat won the men’s 800m in 1:59.9 seconds, whereas Nandalal Mahato (2:02.9) and Radheshyam Kawa (2:03.4) came second and third.

Nepal Police won all three medals in the women’s 800m, with Sabitri Nepali finishing in 2:25.7, ahead of Bishu Kafle (2:25.8) and Chhya Khatri (2:29.1). Yam Narayan Shrestha won the 3,000m steeple chase gold in 10:16.7sec. Lok Bahadur Rokaya (10:26.9) and Padam Kumar Shrestha (11:14.0) came second and third. Gyan Bahadur Bohara won 5,000m race in 15:09.54, ahead of Uttam Khatri and Akkal Bahadur Bohara. Nirmala Bharati won the women’s 5,000m in 18:42.15, ahead of Krishneshwori Sintakala and Haridevi Rajalwat. Dhirendra Shah won javelin throw gold with a distance of 64.27m, ahead of Khursed Ahmad Khan (61.44) and Narendra Shah (55.92).
