Binay in last four

Kathmandu, June 3:

Binay Kumar Regmi, Devendra Gurung, Ummeed Shrestha and Prabesh Hirachan entered the semi-finals of the Lowenbrau third Corporate Snooker Tournament.

In the day’s quarter-finals, Regmi of Nabil Bank Limited defeated Tashi Gurung of Himalaya Kailash Travels and Tours 3-1; Devendra of Peregrine Adventures beat Shital Singh of Nephil Education Consultancy 3-0; Ummeed of Bank of Kathmandu registered a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Raj Kamal Basnet of Standard Chartered Bank; and Prabesh of EES Nepal edged out Subash Shrestha of NIEC 3-1.

Binay took the closely-contested first frame against Tashi 39-35 before registering an easy 76-24 win in the second frame. Tashi returned into the game with a 57-29 win in the third frame, but Binay won the fourth frame and the match with a 55-6 margin.

Devendra had relatively easy opponent winning the first three frames 61-16, 61-12, 44-27 over Shital.

Ummeed Shrestha won the first two frames 44-34, 55-46 before Raj Kamal outplayed Ummeed in the next two frames 51-38 and 103-21 taking the match to the deciding fifth frame. But Ummeed took the frame 67-32 to earn a semi-final berth.

The last quarter-final saw Prabesh Hirachan beating Subash Shrestha. Prabesh won the first frame 61-46, while Subash levelled the scores with a 48-37 win in the second. Prabesh routed Subash 98-11 in the third frame and clinched the match with a 70-28 victory in the fourth frame.

In Wednesday’s semi-finals, Ummeed will take on Prabesh, while Devendra will play against Binay. The final is slated for Thursday. The tournament has been jointly organised by Annapurna Post and Hotel Shangri-La.
