Blues stretch lead, Arsenal lose, Man U win

Frank Lampard scored twice and Chelsea won at Tottenham 2-0 to increase the Blues’ commanding lead in the Premier League to 10 points over Arsenal on Saturday. Lampard scored on a disputed first-half penalty, and then clinched the victory with a second-half injury-time goal.

Arsenal slumped to a 1-0 loss at Bolton on a first-half goal by Stelios Giannakopoulos. It was Arsenal’s third loss in the league this season, but this could be decisive. It was a better day for Manchester United, which closed to within one point of the Gunners with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. United got at first-half goal from Wayne Rooney, and survived the last 25 minutes a man short for the win.

In other results, it was: Aston Villa 3, Norwich 0; Charlton 3, Birmingham 1; Manchester City 3, Crystal Palace 1; Newcastle 2, Southampton 1; and Portsmouth 0, Blackburn 1. Chelsea leads with 58 points, followed by Arsenal with 48 and Manchester United with 47. They are followed by Everton (43) and Liverpool (37).

Spanish La Liga

MADRID:

Paulo Wanchope scored the only goal in the 66th minute, and Malaga upset fifth-place Sevilla 1-0 in the Spanish League. It was the first victory for Malaga coach Antonio Tapia, who took over after Gregorio Manzano was fired on Tuesday. Earlier, Valentin Sergio Pachon scored a second-half goal to help 10-man Getafe hold Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw. Pachon blasted a shot into the net after Getafe had cut through Atletico’s midfield and defence with 11 straight passes in the 64th minute.

Atletico had taken the lead in the 36th minute through a goal by midfielder Jorge Larena. Nine minutes later, Getafe was reduced to 10 men as defender Ruben Pulido got his second yellow card.

Italian Serie A

ROME:

Ten-man Reggina held Inter Milan to a 0-0 draw, but the Milan powerhouse still stretched its unbeaten streak to 19 matches. Inter still trails leaders Juventus by 12 points. Reggina played with 10 men for the last 26 minutes after Giuseppe Colucci received a second yellow card. Reggina lifted itself into the upper half of the standings with 24 points. In the other match, Brescia and Fiorentina settled with a 1-1 draw.
