Patan win volleyball title

LALITPUR: Patan Multiple Campus beat South Lalitpur United Club to win the first Manmohan Memorial Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday. Patan Campus bounced back from a set down to beat South Lalitpur United Club 16-25, 25-11, 27-25, 23-25, 15-4 in the final held at the Jawalakhel ground today. The tournament was organised by the Communist Party of Nepal, UML Lalitpur district committee. State Minister for Education and Sports Mohan Singh Rathaur and Nepal Olympic Committee member Purendra Bikram Lakhe gave away the prizes to the winners. — HNS

National Volleyball

HETAUDA: Tribhuvan Army Club and Central Region registered wins on the opening day of the 24th Men and 14th Women’s National Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday. In the men’s section, the Army Club beat Armed Police Force Club 25-18, 14-25, 25-16, 25-23 while Central Region defeated Mid-western Region in straight sets of 25-20, 25-9, 25-19. The army club also beat Western Region 25-15, 25-23, 25-19 and Mahendra Police Club outplayed Mid-western Region 25-14, 25-12, 25-6 in the late matches. Member secretary of the National Sports Council Jeevan Ram Shrestha inaugurated the tournament, which has been organised by Makwanpur Volleyball Association. — HNS
