KATHMANDU, JANUARY 11
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) suspended Sandeep Lamichhane from all cricket-related activities, on Thursday.
With this, Lamichhane has been barred from participating in any cricket-related activities, be it on a national or international level. CAN, in a press statement, said that this decision was reached after the court found the former national team captain guilty and determined the punishment.
This decision by CAN follows the verdict handed down by the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday, sentencing the former National cricket team skipper to eight years in prison for charges of rape.

The single bench of Judge Shishir Dhakal concluded that Lamichhane had violated Sub sections 1, 2, and 3(e) of the Section 219 of the National Penal Code Act 2017. In addition to the prison term, Lamichhane was fined Rs 300,000 and ordered to compensate Rs 200,000 to the victims in Gaushala-26.
Previously, Lamichhane was relieved of his position and later suspended by CAN, following the allegtion of the sexual assault while serving as the captain of the Nepali Cricket team. Although the suspension was removed later.
On February 27, Lamichhane was permitted by Supreme Court to travel over seas to play games, reverting the decision by high court prohibiting him from leaving Nepal.
