Challengers beat Chargers in opener

KALAIYA: Kalaiya Cricket Club (KCC) Challengers beat KCC Chargers by 30 runs in the inaugural match of the KCC Reunion Cricket Fair here today.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss at the Siddheswor grounds, the Challengers piled up a modest 147-5 in 20 overs. In reply, the Chargers could only muster 117 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Sharad Pokhrel top scored for the Chargers with 39 runs off 44 balls including three fours. Skipper Mukesh Upadhyay made 17 runs while other batsmen failed to reach the double figure mark. Dipendra Yadav picked up three wickets for the Challengers while Subhash Jaiswal and Bibek Dali took apiece.

Earlier, Binod Das smashed 46 off 37 balls to give the Challengers a defendable total. Das’ innings included three sixes and four boundaries. Subhash Jaiswal made 28 off 37 balls that featured two sixes and as many fours. Shiva Tandukar (18) and Jitendra Yadav (16) remained unbeaten for the Challengers. Abhay Sharma and Prabhat Chaurasiya picked up a wicket each for the losing team.

The top two teams after the round-robin league will contest in the final on Sunday.
