Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today filed a corruption case against former national football team skipper Hari Khadka at the Special Court accusing him of forging academic documents during his service in Nepal Police.
According to the CIAA, Khadka was found to have breached Prevention of Corruption Act and Corruption Control Act and is subject to the punishment.
"Khadka was found to have deceived the government by submitting false educational documents while getting an appointment as Assistant Sub-Inspector in Nepal Police on October 18, 1998," said CIAA Assistant Spokesperson Bed Prasad Bhandari in a statement.
"He took personal benefits by remaining in the position and also got promoted to Sub-Inspector two years later," the statement added.
The CIAA had received a complaint against the then SI Khadka of submitting false academic certificates of Intermediate in Arts (IA) at a time when the footballer was posted at Sports Committee under the National Police Training Academy.
"Khadka had submitted false IA certificates from Higher Secondary Council of Varanasi India to get selected as ASI through free competition. He was found to have taken the intention of harming the Nepal government and gain personal benefits out of it," the CIAA claimed.
One of the finest strikers of his era, Khadka - the joint highest scorer for the national team with 13 goals - has already resigned from Nepal Police and is currently serving at the All Nepal Football Association as the Women's Football Department Head. He is also Board Member of the National Sports Council.
Khadka, who led the Nepal Police Club to Martyrs Memorial A Division League title in 2006-07, was awarded with the best footballer of the league. He also served the ANFA as head coach of women's national team and assistant coach of men's national team.
