KATHMANDU, MAY 2

The Nepali Army is organising the second edition of the CoAS National Tennis Tournament here from May 11-19.

More than 200 players are expected to take part in the eight-day tournament that features 13 events, informed the organisers at a press meet today. The tournament carries a cash purse of around one million rupees.

Top three players in men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles will receive Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively, while the winners in above-35, above-45 and above-55 singles and doubles will get cash prizes along with the men's singles and doubles in inter-governmental category, informed Maj Nimesh Panthi.

The participating players need to represent their respective clubs and each event will have at least eight players/teams.

Brig Gen Krishna Prasad Bhandari said the tournament could not be organised last year due to various reasons including the coronavirus pandemic. "The main objective of the tournament is to help in the development of the sport and produce champion players," said Bhandari.

Nepal Tennis Association will provide technical support to the organisers along with appointing tournament director. Chief of the Nepali Army Physical Training and Sports Centre, Col Munal Basnet, NTA President Jyoti Rana and General Secretary Manohar Das Mool were also present on the occasion.
