Departmental sides Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Nepal APF Club made winning starts in the fifth RBB-NVA Cup National League Volleyball Championship here at the NSC covered hall today.

In men's section, TAC defeated Mani Mukunda Volleyball Club in straight sets. The departmental team dominated the match before walking away with 25-17, 25-14, 25-21 victory. Earlier, NPC recorded a 3-0 victory over Nayabazaar Samajik Youth Club. NPC conceded just nine points in the first set before Nayabazaar put up strong shows in the second and third set. NPC won the second set 25-21 and sealed the victory with a 25- 16 win in the third set.

Likewise, APF defeated Bulbule Rara Club 3-1. In a competitive match, APF took the lead with a 25-20 win and doubled the tally with 28-26 victory. Bulbule Rara Club reduced the deficit winning the third set 25-19 after rallying from 10-14 behind and they missed a couple of chances to take the match to fifth set and APF took the fourth set 32-30.

In women's section, Hongwanji New Diamond Sports Club thrashed Dhorpatan Sports Club 3-0. New Diamond - who took a 20-0 lead on Panamika Rai's service in the third set - conceded a total of 13 points in three sets on their way to winning 25-6, 25-2, 25-5.

A total of 13 teams - seven in men's section and six in women's category - are taking part in the tournament organised by Nepal Volleyball Association under the sponsorship of Rashtriya Banijya Bank. Top two teams will qualify for finals after the round robin league in both sections. Top four teams in both sections will receive Rs 300,000, Rs 175,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 37,500 respectively.

The best player in both sections will get Rs 25,000 each, while the best libero, spiker, blocker, server, setter and coach will earn Rs 10,000 apiece.
