Dhorpatan C’ship in January

Dhorpatan Sports Training Club is set to hold the 12th Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup TVS Women’s Volleyball Double League Championship here at Machhapokhari from January 7- 21.

The championship was originally scheduled for December 24 to January 7. However, the organisers were forced to change the date after National Sports Council announced decided to hold the seventh National Games in the Eastern Region from December 23-30, informed Dhorpatan Club President Manbir Chhantyal during a press meet today.

Hosts Dhorpatan Club, Nepal APF Club, Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, New Diamond Academy, Western Regional Volleyball Association, Everest HS School of Butwal, Chandeshwori Youth Club of Ramechhap, Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahabidhyalaya and Read Model College have confirmed their participation, while Indian team is yet to be confirmed.

“We want to entertain India team with the expectation that the level of Nepali volleyball will go up. If we find such thing in the competition we will continue hosting them,” said Chhantyal. He said the top eight teams after the first round will enter the final round.

The champions of the tournament will bag Rs 320,000, while runners-up will take home Rs 160,000. Similarly, third to seventh position holders will receive Rs 75,000, Rs 45,000, Rs 35,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000.

Likewise, the best player, rising player, player of the year, player of the series and player winning the great achievement award will receive a scooter each.

The best coach, lifter, spiker, defender, server, blocker and quicker will get Rs 5,000 each. Chhantyal also informed the club will provide Rs 24,000, to the teams of Kathmandu valley, Rs 75,000 to the teams from out of valley and Rs 110,000 to the foreign teams for preparations. The budget of the event is Rs 3.5 million.
