Disappointing day for Nepali archers

Kathmandu, March 25

Nepali archers produced disappointing results in the individual events of the  third South Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka, Bangladesh today.

In men’s individual recurve, Tilak Pun faced a 9-8 defeat at the hands of Bangladesh’s Sanuar Hussain in the second round of eliminator.

Earlier, Pun had defeated Pakistan’s Saifullah 3-0 in first round. Similarly, Min Prasad Gauchan went down to Bangladesh’s Abdul Mamun 6-2 in the first round, while Prem Prasad Pun suffered a 6-2 loss against Sri Lanka’s Lakmal Chaminda.

In men’s individual compound section, Hom Bahadur Thapa Magar lost 142-106 to India’s Mayang  Rawat in second round  of eliminator. Earlier, Magar had earned a walkover win from Sri  Lankan opponent in first round.

Prajeet Kumar Agrawal, who earned a bye  in the first round, went down to Sri Lanka’s Kurukula Udaya 133-130 in the second round of eliminator, while Abhishek Raj Pradhan was beaten by  Bangladesh’s Ihsan Ahmed 118-116 in first round.

In women’s  individual recurve, Gyanu Awale suffered a 6-4 defeat against Laksari Madhusikka, while Aisha Tamang went down to Sri Lanka’s Uirasingha Thirasi 6-0  and Tamanna Chhetri was beaten by Bangaldesh’s Nasrin Akter 6-2 in the  first round of eliminator.

Meanwhile, Gyanu Awale bettered the national record in women’s individual compound section after scoring 306  points in the second round of eliminator. Awale held the record of 303 points scored during the seventh National Games in 2016. Awale scored 288 points in the first round.

Aisha Tamang scored 283 points in first round and 284 points in second round, while Tamanna Chhetri accumulated 239 points in first round and 244 points in second round.

In men’s section, Tilak Pun Magar scored 308 points and 303 points in first and second rounds respectively, while Min Prasad Gauchan accumulated 293 points and 304 in two rounds. Prem Prasad Pun scored 270 points and 289 points respectively in first and second rounds.
