Kathmandu, March 25
Tashi Tshiring Dong won the title of the Indian Ambassador's Invitational Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the two-handicap amateur golfer Dong earned 40 points to finish first. Tashi Tshiring finished second with 37 points.
National golf team member Sadbhav Acharya claimed the gross section title with 37 points and the 16-year-old golfer also bagged the longest drive award.
Tara Karki Chitrakar won the women's section trophy with 38 points, while Gita Gurung finished second with 33 points. Maj Bejoy Moktan was the winner among senior golfers with 35 points. Former Chief of the Army Staff, Gen Prajwalla SJB Rana was awarded with the senior most golfers' ward. Pavitra Kumar Karki and Shyam Tamang won awards for the best front nine and back nine scores respectively.
Vijay Shrestha Einhaus claimed the most birdies award with four birdies, while Lt Col Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi earned most pars award.
Norbu Tshiring Sherpa bagged the closest-to-the-pin award.
Likewise, Sarika Sharma won the putting competition organised for non golfers. Ritika Dey finished second on count back and Nidhi Srivastava came third.
A total of 95 players, 12 women golfers, took part in the tournament. Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Shri Naveen Srivastava, Defense Attache Col Amit Sharma, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan and CEO of Nepal SBI Bank Dipak Kumar Dey handed over th e prizes to the winners.
Meanwhile, the organisers felicitated national team golfers Subash Tamang and Sadbhav Acharya for winning team event gold medal in the 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship earlier this month in Dhaka. The Embassy of India also awarded promising women golfers Kashmira Shah and Juny Gurung with scholarships worth Rs 50,000 each.
