Far-western, Nepal APF win opening day matches

Far-western Region and Nepal APF Club won the opening day matches of the Prime Minister Cup Women’s National Cricket Tournament here at the Fapla Cricket Stadium today.

Far-western defeated Western Region by five wickets, while APF thrashed Mid-western by 10 wickets. In the first match, Western scored 73-9 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat first. In reply, Far-western achieved the target in 17.1 overs losing five wickets.

Western’s Barsha Rana (14) and Saraswoti Pun (10) scored in double figures.

Far-western’s Laxmi Saud claimed three wickets and was named the player-of-the-match, while Kabita Joshi claimed two wickets. Kabita Kunwar, Dalli Bhatta and Samjhana Khadka took one wicket each.

In reply, Far-western reached the target riding on Bimala Bhatta’s 18 runs and Manju Rawal’s 12 runs. Western’s Saraswoti Pun claimed three wickets and Barsha Rana picked up one.

In another match, APF invited Mid-western to take the first strike and bowled them out for a paltry 36 runs in 18.5 overs. APF raced to the target in just 4.2 overs without losing wicket.

Mid-western’s Gita Gosai scored in double figures adding 15 runs.

APF’s Ritu Kanojiya, who was named the player-of-the-match, claimed four wickets, while Sonu Khadka, Rekha Rawal, Gita Rana and Anjali Chand took one wicket each.

In reply, APF openers Jyoti Pandey and Sita Rana Magar took the team home. Pandey remained unbeaten on 25 runs and Rana Magar scored 11 not out.

A total of six teams — five regions and APF — are competing in the event organised by Kailali District Sports Development Committee.

The winners and runners-up of the tournament will get Rs 500,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively.
