FIRST Corporate nATIONAL Games : Laxmi Bank emerge champions

Kathmandu, March 1:

Laxmi Bank claimed the team championship with five gold medals at the first Corporate National Games here today. Buddha Air finished second with four golds while New Business Age was next with three gold medals.

Roots Fashion won the six-a-side football with a 4-3 win over Buddha Air in tiebreaker after a goalless draw in the normal time. Bottlers’ Nepal won the third-place decider 3-0 against Laxmi Bank on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Niraj Saiju of Laxmi Bank beat Kishor Bhattarai of New Business Age 3-2 in the snooker championship final. Laxmi Bank also claimed the basketball title, beating Everest Bank in final today.

Rajan Khadka of Everest Bank clinched the men’s 100 metre race, ahead of Sushil Shrestha of DHL and Robin Chand of Buddha Air.

Mohini Shrestha of Everest Bank won the women’s 100 metre race. Biplika Joshi and Pranita Joshi of Everest Insurance finished second and third respectively.

Pravir Singh of New Business Age claimed the men’s 200m while his teammate Shyam Giri finished second and Sushil Shrestha of DHL came third.

Nirmal Adhikari of Buddha Air earned the men’s 400m gold. Bishnu Shrestha of Group 4 and Sudesh Poudel of Asian Thai Foods finished second and third respectively. Robin Chand of Buddha Air won the men’s long jump.

Other winners included Raj Kumar Shrestha of United Spirit (high jump), Pranay Sthapit of Bottlers’ Nepal (shot put), Rajesh Upadhyaya of Nabil Bank (5-km race) and Buddha Air (4x100m relay).

Srikantha Dhungana of Surya Nepal bagged the men’s singles badminton trophy with a 21-13, 21-7 win over Kishor Bhattarai of New Business Age.

Twinkle Khetan of Laxmi Bank defeated Stuty Maskey of APCA Nepal 21-3, 21-14 for the women’s singles championship in badminton. Himal Shah and Srikantha Dhungana of Surya Nepal won the men’s doubles badminton.

Laxmi Bank won both the men’s and women’s singles table tennis championships. Nischay Banda and Pritesh Shrestha gave Laxmi Bank the TT gold medals. Sujan Rajan and Kishor Shrestha gave Buddha Air the gold medal in men’s doubles.

Surya Nepal was declared the best corporate team while Kishor Bhattarai of New Business Age was adjudged the best allrounder of the Games. Nabil Bank was named the disciplined team.

In all, 32 corporate houses took part in the Games organised by Nepal Corporate Sports Association.
