KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 17

Special Court on Thursday convicted former national football team skipper Hari Khadka of forgery and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had on January 26 filed a corruption case against Khadka at the Special Court accusing him of forging academic documents during his service in Nepal Police.

Khadka, who was present before the court for the hearing, was found guilty and the division bench of Justices Abdul Aziz Musalman and Nityananda Pandey decided to impose a fine of Rs 5,000.

According to CIAA, Khadka had submitted the false intermediate level certificate from Higher Secondary Council of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India to get the appointment of Assistant Sub-Inspector in 1998 and he also earned promotion to Sub-Inspector two years later. After resigning from the post, Khadka - the joint highest scorer for the national team - served the All Nepal Football Association at various capacities including head coach of women's national team and assistant coach of men's national team.

Currently, Khadka is the board Member of the National Sports Council and Head of Women's Football Department at the ANFA.
