Indian Railway win PM Cup title

Nepalgunj, March 1

Defending champions Indian Railway Volleyball Team claimed the title of the fourth PM Cup Women’s Volleyball Tournament here at the Nepalgunj Stadium covered hall today.

Indian Railway saw off Nepal APF Club in straight sets in the day’s final match and defended the title of the tournament. Indian Railway, who remained unbeaten in all four matches, had to work hard to claim the first set 27-25 but they dominated

the next two sets and won 25-17 and 25-22.

Meanwhile, Nepal Police Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 25-18, 25-15, 20-25,  25-23 and claimed third position. The winners, runners-up and third place finisher got Rs 111,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively.

Indian Railway’s Anushree Ghosh was named the best player of the tournament and got Rs 10,000, while Richu Marry and Pirosmita Bapari were adjudged the best setter and best defender respectively and received Rs 2,000 each. Similarly, APF’s Saraswoti Chaudhary got the best spiker’s award, Usha Bista was named the best blocker and Nebika Chaudhary bagged the award of best server. They earned Rs  2,000 apiece.

National Sports Council Treasurer and Olympian Surendra Hamal among others handed over prizes to the winners. A total of six teams participated in the league-cum-knockout tournament which was organised by Banke Volleyball Association.
