Game called off

ROME: A fourth Serie A match has been called off on Sunday due to the cold and snow. Genoa-Bari became the latest casualty of the weather following both Saturday matches, Bologna-Atalanta and Fiorentina-AC Milan as well as Udinese-Cagliari. Inter Milan lead Milan by five points with Juventus, who host rock-bottom Catania in Turin’s Stadio Olimpico, a point further back.

Keita sidelined

MADRID: Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita will be out of action for about three weeks after damaging his right thigh muscle, the European champions said on Saturday. The Mali international, who is expected to feature in the African Nations Cup in Angola next month, had to be substituted at halftime in the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi.

Braehmer retains title

SCHWERIN: Germany’s Juergen Braehmer just retained his WBO

light heavyweight crown overnight on Saturday in scoring a points victory over Russian Dmitry Sukhotsky. Braehmer, making his first defence, had to go to the wire to see off Sukhotsky. The challenger had the upper hand in the 10th round but finally bowed out as the judges handed a 116-112, 116-112, 118-112 verdict to his rival. Braehmer, 31, now has 35 wins under his belt, including 28 knockouts, for just two defeats. Sukhotsky went down to his first defeat in 15 fights. Braehmer first landed the title left vacant by Hungarian Zsolt Erdei, who now holds the WBC cruiserweight belt, in August.
